Myndighetene i Uganda har oppnevnt LHBTI-lobbygruppen Uganda Health and Science Press Association (Uhspa Uganda) til en komite som skal mainstreame homorettigheter i Ugandas helsepolitikk. Gruppa er et nettverk for journalister, advokater, minoritetsgrupper, studenter med flere som jobber for retten til helse for sårbare grupper og minoritetsgrupper i Uganda.

I et brev skriver Nathan Kenya-Mugisha på vegne av Helsedepartementet, at Uhspa Uganda er en «key stakeholder» for å mainstreame minoritetsrettigheter. Hasifa Nakiganda i Uhspa Uganda støttet utnevnelsen og sa at det var det riktige for regjeringen å gjøre.

Ugandas LHBTI-befolkning har høy forekomst av HIV, og Nakiganda påpeker at dette ikke nødvendigvis skyldes høyrisikoadferd fra LHBTI-gruppa, men heller fordi Ugandas myndigheter har nektet dem informasjon om HIV-forebygging gjennom strenge straffelover.
